The names of the 587 officers who had lost their lives in the battle were engraved on the walls on both sides of the entrance hall. The left wing of the museum accommodates the F-86 Sabre and the 155-mm howitzer. On the right, there is an amphibious landing vehicle tracked (LVT) and a light tank, the M24 Chaffee. The exhibits give visitors a glimpse of the joint operations the three forces carried out in the battle. A nice war museum

As a former artillery officer, it’s a must do activity to visit the 823 War museum because it was a cannon battle. It has a detailed introduction of the 823 War. When it started and ended. How many shells from where and the damages to different regions of Kinmen. Luckily, Kinmen is made of a very strong granite, thus it can sustain the bombardments of so many shells. Believe it or not, the shells left created a new business in a Kinmen, the famous Kinmen Shell knives.

Having lived in Mainland China for so long it is quite interesting to get a Taiwanese perspective. It is a small museum but very informative.

Detailing the island's experiences during the Taiwan Straits Crisis when mainland China fired continuous artillery barrages at the island and with no where being safe from long range guns. While biased towards the Taiwanese viewpoint, it was very informative and easy to understand.

    Impressive!

The 823 War Museum was completed in 1988, 30 years after the 823 Battle. (The People's Liberation Army extensively shelled the island during the Second Taiwan Strait Crises in 1958, August 23 through October 6.) Outside of the museum, it displays fighter jet, tanks and cannon used during the war. Inside the museum, it displays documents, pictures, military data, No. of shells falling into Kinmen (474,910!), and news/reports. Rong-Yuan-Wei Lu (榕園慰盧) is just right next to the museum. It has the buildings showing classic Southern Fujian architecture (慰盧). There is a huge banyan tree in the beautiful garden (榕園).
