- This is a good place to start your trip in Kinmen, as there are exhibits, photographs and a short video giving a good overview of the island's history and culture.
- Go up to the 3rd floor balcony for a good view of the nearby coastline, and on a clear day, the skyscrapers of Xiamen.
A trip to Kinmen wouldn't be complete without a visit to Juguang Tower, the landmark from the Chinese civil war period. Built in 1953 as a memorial for Kinmen's fallen soldiers in the Battle of Guningtou 4 years earlier, it's also a token of Kinmen's spirit.
The tower's distinctive architecture combines a traditional Chinese tower on top of a contemporary base. Two small cannons at the front date from the Ming and Qing dynasties.
From 1959 to 1964, Juguang Tower was featured in stamps issued by the Republic of China's post office. Letters with Kinmen's renowned landmark on them were sent all over the world, promoting the beauty and historic significance of Kinmen.

Little building with exhibits insideIt’s a 3 storey building with exhibits inside. You get to learn more about the local way of life, like the famed wind lions of Kinmen and its origins. Nice view from the top. Thought I got overly crowded when I was there!

The Symbol of KinmenIt’s the symbol of a Kinmen. Actually, it was used as the mark of China artillery to bombard Kinmen during the very famous 823 artillery war back then. The third floor is kind of memory place for General Hu who was the Commander in Kinmen back then. Somehow, all three deputy Commanders died in the first artillery bombarding. The second floor displayed local religious stuff. Not too much changes for the last 49 years, said one of my friends who served military service here in late ‘70s.
quick stopJuguang Tower (sort of misleading as it’s only about three stories high) was my first stop which offered a good view of the town and had some displays about the tower’s history. You can get a view of Xiamen from the observation deck but pretty quick stop otherwise.
Observation Deck, Museum, and Interesting BuildingOn a clear day you're supposed to be able to see the mainland (Xiamen, Fujian Province) from the rooftop of this building. It was hazy when I was there, but I think I was able to make out faint outlines of high rises. The building also features local history and culture in a sort of museum.
AmazingIf you are interested in the history of the Republic of China and the Kinmen islands during the Chinese Civil War. This is one of the place that you MUST visit.
