A trip to Kinmen would not be complete without a visit to Juguang Tower, the landmark indicative of the Chinese civil war period. It is also a token of Kinmen’s spirit. The tower boasts the gorgeous scenery of Jincheng Township and the resourceful Lienshan mountain range.
Juguang Tower
Juguang Tower is a traditional city tower established on a contemporary base that commemorates soldiers who fought in Guningtou Battle. It also reiterates Kinmen's wartime image “being impregnable like gold guarding the gate to the sea”.
Juguang Tower
From 1959 to 1964, Juguang Tower was featured in stamps issued by the Republic of China Post Office for four times. Mails with Kinmen’s renowned landmark on them were sent all over the world, advocating the beauty and historic significance of Kinmen.

    The Symbol of Kinmen

    5 2018-09

It’s the symbol of a Kinmen. Actually, it was used as the mark of China artillery to bombard Kinmen during the very famous 823 artillery war back then. The third floor is kind of memory place for General Hu who was the Commander in Kinmen back then. Somehow, all three deputy Commanders died in the first artillery bombarding. The second floor displayed local religious stuff. Not too much changes for the last 49 years, said one of my friends who served military service here in late ‘70s.

Juguang Tower (sort of misleading as it’s only about three stories high) was my first stop which offered a good view of the town and had some displays about the tower’s history. You can get a view of Xiamen from the observation deck but pretty quick stop otherwise.

Observation Deck, Museum, and Interesting Building

On a clear day you're supposed to be able to see the mainland (Xiamen, Fujian Province) from the rooftop of this building. It was hazy when I was there, but I think I was able to make out faint outlines of high rises. The building also features local history and culture in a sort of museum.
